Orlanda Broom Artist portrait

Orlanda Broom is an artist who uses colour and explores the properties of the paint she works with. Out of this experimentation with different mediums came a body of work that explores the boundaries of resin - a tricky to use but versatile medium. Because of its fluid state and inherent time constraints, using resin has engaged Orlanda in a process of working that is close to a ‘flow state’. It’s a dynamic and responsive way of working in the moment and some elements are left to chance.

This process is quite the opposite to the way she works on her floral and landscape paintings, which are slowly built layers of acrylic paint. The connection between these two bodies of work is a strong sense of colour, references to organic forms and the exploration of painting mediums.
